Photographer Karl Grobl won the Grand Prize and the Basic Education category for InterAction's First Annual Photography Contest. Entitled "Two School Girls", Grobl's photo features two school children of the indigenous weaving community of Willoq in the Peruvian Andes completing homework outside their classroom. Through a grant from Aircast Inc., Grobl has also been on assignment with Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) Worldwide Photography Project, documenting HVO's health training and education programs in Asia, South and Central America and Africa. Karl Grobl is a master photographer, said Nancy A. Kelly, MHS, HVO Executive Director. He is able to capture the most essential and important moments in our health training projects in distilled and dignified images that convey the hopes and aspirations of people living and working in the developing world. More than 170 photographs were submitted to the InterAction photography contest, illustrating effective assistance in seven categories: basic education; health care; refugee and disaster response; peace and democracy; job and business skills; women and girls; and reducing hunger. Visit InterAction's web site at www.interaction.org to see the award winning photograph. Grobl's photos can also be viewed on the HVO web site at www.hvousa.org and on his own web site at www.karlgrobl.com. Health Volunteers Overseas was founded in 1986 to improve global health through education. Since then, more than 3,800 health professionals have donated their time and expertise to provide training and education to health care providers in the least-developed nations of the world. HVO is a member of InterAction, the largest alliance of U.S.-based international development and humanitarian non-governmental organizations.
